This Month's Cause:

With your donation, help deliver 300 water filters (each lasting 10 years) to families in La Guajira, a drought-affected area.

In this arid region of Colombia, the lack of access to clean water affects the indigenous Wayuu people and Venezuelan refugees. This is the "Hydrating La Guajira" project, initiated by the Barranquilla Hub in collaboration with Waves For Water. The 300 water filtration systems will serve 300 families across different zones. These systems are expected to operate for more than 10 years.

In this region, unfortunately, malnutrition in children is rampant due to unsafe water sources, and 83.7% of rural communities rely on contaminated water. Beyond immediate relief, the project emphasizes sustainable solutions and community empowerment. It also aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of indigenous cultures. Amid challenges of rapid population growth and recent flooding, the lack of access to water is also linked to corruption and mismanagement of resources.
